Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Mohamed Farid, met Singapore’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dominic Goh, to discuss expanding investment and trade cooperation between the two countries, the ministry said on Friday.

The talks focused on broadening the operations of Singaporean companies already active in Egypt, attracting new investments and boosting Egyptian exports, particularly in financial services, logistics and supply chains.

Farid said Egypt aimed to build on recent positive developments in bilateral relations and transform them into partnerships that would increase two-way investment and trade.

He highlighted Singapore’s expertise in managing financial centres, digital transformation and logistics, and said Egypt sought to benefit from that experience while expanding access for competitive Egyptian products to the Singaporean market.

The two sides discussed increasing Singaporean investment in Egypt’s industrial and productive sectors and encouraging Singaporean companies to use Egypt as a production and export hub for regional and international markets.

Egypt’s location and trade agreements with Arab, African and European markets could offer Singaporean investors expanded access, the ministry said.

The meeting also addressed ways to increase Egyptian exports to Singapore and improve the trade balance by identifying products with strong market potential and examining Singapore’s import requirements.

The officials discussed co-operation in logistics, supply-chain management, industrial zones and distribution centres, as well as possible collaboration on carbon certificates and sustainability.

They also considered organising an investment-promotion mission to Singapore to present opportunities in priority sectors and projects.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication, monitor expansion plans by existing companies and address challenges facing investors, the ministry said.
