Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, has underscored the importance of prioritising diplomatic efforts and dialogue to contain regional tensions and prevent further escalation.
The minister statements came during a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Saudi Arabia over the rapidly evolving developments in the region.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki said the two ministers discussed joint efforts to restore calm and prevent further regional escalation, in coordination with regional and international partners, including the United States and Qatar.
Both ministers stressed the need to exercise restraint, allow sufficient time for diplomatic efforts and political processes to advance, and encourage all parties concerned to engage in negotiations with flexibility and a constructive spirit.
They emphasised that renewed military confrontation would expose the region to further risks and repercussions, at a time when it continues to grapple with the consequences of previous conflicts.
The two ministers agreed to maintain close co-ordination and consultation, while intensifying communications with all relevant parties to build consensus around prioritising negotiations and securing commitments to refrain from escalatory measures.
They also stressed that preventing further deterioration in the security situation requires a genuine commitment to de-escalation and a willingness to pursue diplomatic solutions, in order to safeguard regional security and stability.
