CAIRO- Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili named renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass as a UNWTO ambassador.
This came during a ceremony, held at the Golden Hall in Manial Palace, by Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled Anani after the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade to honor the chiefs of UNESCO and UNWTO along with a number of foreign tourism ministers.
This is the first time for an Egyptian to attain this title which is meant to get Hawass to be responsible for encouraging tourism not only in Egypt, but also in the whole world.
In a statement on Sunday, Hawass said “It is a great honor not only for me, but also for Egypt,” thanking President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for giving due attention for heritage and the Egyptian civilization. (MENA)
