Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed the national agricultural projects nationwide in light of the steady progress achieved in this vital sector over the past years, within the state’s plan to bring about a radical change in Egypt’s agricultural map, through unprecedented efforts to reclaim millions of acres in various parts of Egypt within a short period of time. More than 3 million new acres will be added soon to agricultural land, which is more than one third of the entire agricultural land area in the country.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El-Sayed El-Qaseer.
During the meeting, the President was also briefed on the efforts to increase and improve the productivity of acres in Egypt in terms of quantity and quality, which led to Egypt’s progress in the global ranking of acre productivity to the first five positions in many crops, including rice, corn and wheat.
The President also followed the growth rates of fresh and processed agricultural exports, which achieved a great leap as it exceeded seven and a half billion dollars during the past year 2022.
The President, meanwhile, directed in this regard to continue intensive efforts providing full support to farmers, and continuous work to improve quality and maintain and enhance the reputation of the Egyptian product globally, by adhering to international standards in this regard.
The President gave directives to continue working on the governance of fertiliser use and the employment of modern water-saving irrigation systems, as well as facilitating the use of mechanisation in agriculture to reduce loss during harvesting, in addition to the important role of agricultural scientific research in this regard.
The President also stressed that the great efforts to develop the agricultural sector and restore Egypt’s historical status in this field are part of comprehensive development efforts in which all economic sectors, including agriculture and industry, infrastructure, roads and facilities, transportation and trade, are integrated to achieve the highest added value for Egyptian products to help Egypt enhance food security in light of the current international conditions, in addition to advancing all components of the national economy , especially providing job opportunities, increasing exports and limiting imports, to improve the standard of living of citizens.
