Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi on Thursday to review key developments and work files at the ministry.

The meeting highlighted the readiness of Egypt’s natural gas supply system, which helped maintain regular supplies to various sectors, particularly power plants and industrial facilities, during the peak summer consumption period.

Badawi also reviewed efforts to increase oil and natural gas production and attract new investments.

He said the payment of the sector’s outstanding dues to foreign partners in June 2026 was a key step towards restoring investor confidence and encouraging new investments in exploration, field development and production.

The minister said Egypt aims to add around 250 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) to domestic gas production from the Zohr and Mina West fields in the Mediterranean before the end of 2026. Another 80 mmcf/d is expected from the Meleha fields in the Western Desert before the end of September.

The meeting also covered efforts to upgrade oil-sector infrastructure and improve energy security. Refinery utilisation has increased from 66 per cent to more than 80 per cent through improved crude supply and greater operational efficiency. This has helped raise domestic production of gasoline and diesel and reduce imports.

Badawi reviewed developments in Egypt’s mining sector, stressing efforts to attract global exploration companies and expand the investor base by making use of advanced technologies and expertise.

He also highlighted the continued expansion of natural gas connections to homes. During the 2025/26 fiscal year, gas was connected to 804,000 housing units, replacing the use of around 14 million LPG cylinders.
