Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has stressed the importance of further strengthening Egyptian-Cypriot relations and expanding co-operation across various fields, particularly in the economic, commercial and investment sectors, while emphasising the need to implement the memorandum of understanding on the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.
The minister’s remarks came during a telephone conversation the minister had with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos, as part of regular consultations between the two sides to enhance bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments.
During the call, the two ministers reaffirmed the depth of the longstanding historical ties between Egypt and Cyprus, which have evolved into a strategic partnership.
Abdelatty, for his part, expressed his keenness to maintain close coordination and consultation at all levels, underscoring the importance of building on the momentum in bilateral relations to advance shared interests.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Nader Zaki, Minister Abdelatty also highlighted the significance of the trilateral co-operation mechanism bringing together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, describing it as an important framework for strengthening cooperation and partnership among the three countries.
In this regard, he reviewed preparations currently under way for the forthcoming trilateral summit.
The discussions also addressed regional developments and efforts to contain escalating tensions.
In this respect, Abdelatty emphasised the need to give priority to political and diplomatic solutions, warning against a renewed slide into military confrontations that could widen the scope of conflict and undermine regional security and stability.
He further cautioned that such developments could have far reaching repercussions for the safety of international navigation, global trade and supply chains.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Libya, with particular attention to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean against the backdrop of recent events.
The call concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain co-ordination and consultations within the framework of the strategic partnership between Egypt and Cyprus and to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and preserving regional security and stability.
