Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed on Sunday the importance of continued co-ordination between the government and the Central Bank of Egypt to safeguard financial and monetary stability and advance the country’s economic reform agenda.

Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting with Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdalla, held as part of the regular coordination between the two institutions on priority economic and financial issues. The meeting reviewed a number of key areas related to the forthcoming reforms of the Egyptian economy, including joint efforts to formulate the national economic transformation programme.

Discussions also covered the latest performance indicators of the national economy and measures to sustain the downward trend in inflation while supporting efforts to increase dollar inflows.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the importance of maintaining foreign currency reserves at secure levels sufficient to meet the country’s strategic requirements, particularly for essential commodities.

They further reviewed ongoing government and Central Bank efforts to strengthen strategic reserves and ensure the availability of key goods.

For his part, CBE Governor briefed Madbouly on his participation in the 48th Annual Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB), hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi from 13 to 18 September 2026.

The meetings brought together governors from 34 of the Association’s 41 member central banks, representing 53 African countries.

Governor Abdalla also participated in the 14th meeting of the Council of Governors of central banks participating in the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System (PAPSS), which was held in Nairobi on the sidelines of the AACB annual meetings.

Governor Abdalla noted that these engagements contribute to strengthening banking relations across Africa and supporting closer economic and trade cooperation between Egypt and other African countries.

The Central Bank governor also briefed the prime minister on his participation in the high-level conference entitled “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Central Banking Practices”, organised by the Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi to mark its 60th anniversary.

The discussions also addressed the potential of artificial intelligence to process large and diverse datasets and enhance economic analysis and forecasting, highlighting the growing role of advanced technologies in supporting the work of central banks.
