Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Tuesday evening with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Nader Zaki said the call was part of the regular consultations between the two ministers. They discussed recent developments in the region and concerns that the situation could lead to a renewed escalation and a resumption of military operations.
The two ministers also reviewed intensive efforts by regional partners to reduce tensions, promote dialogue and diplomacy, return to the negotiating table and reach a comprehensive agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.
Abdelatty stressed the need for all parties to demonstrate the necessary flexibility and engage seriously in efforts to find a political solution to the crisis, sparing the region risks it can ill afford.
He also underscored that Egypt attaches particular importance and priority to the security of the Gulf states, considering it an extension of Egyptian and Arab national security.
The Egyptian foreign minister called for continued restraint and intensified efforts and diplomatic contacts to prevent military escalation, warning of the serious consequences it could have.
He noted that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had warned earlier on Tuesday of the political, economic and security repercussions of military escalation, not only for the region and its countries but also for the world as a whole.
