Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk announced that Egypt’s FY2026/27 budget will place a strong emphasis on health and education, with allocations for the health sector set to increase by 30% and education spending by 20%, despite overall government expenditure rising by only around 13.5%.

Kouchouk said the Ministry of Finance is working closely with the Ministries of Health and Education to implement more effective and impactful programmes aimed at improving the quality of services provided to citizens.

The minister revealed that LE47.5 billion has been allocated for state-funded medical treatment, health insurance support and pharmaceutical subsidies, marking a 69% year-on-year increase. He added that additional funding has been earmarked to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Health Insurance System in Minya Governorate, ensuring access to quality healthcare services for all family members.

He also noted that LE90.5 billion has been allocated to the Unified Procurement Authority, representing annual growth of 25%, to support the provision of medicines and medical supplies across the healthcare sector.

In education, Kouchouk said LE7.8 billion has been designated for printing pre-university textbooks, while efforts are under way to strengthen allocations for maintenance and printing.

The minister added that the government plans to direct further public investment towards upgrading and maintaining health and education infrastructure across all governorates, as part of broader efforts to enhance service delivery and advance human development nationwide.
