Industry Minister Khaled Hashem took part in laying the foundation stone for Sungrow Power Suez, the first factory in the Middle East and Africa dedicated to advanced battery energy storage systems (BESS). The project is located in the Egypt‑China TEDA zone in Ain Sokhna, with the participation of the Ministers of Electricity and Military Production, the Governor of Suez, and senior officials from the economic zone and the company.

Hashem said the factory marks a milestone in Egypt’s clean energy transition, supporting grid stability and enabling greater integration of renewable power. He stressed that the project’s value lies not only in production capacity but also in training Egyptian cadres, transferring technology, and developing local industries.

The minister urged the company to increase local content and cooperate with research centres to embed advanced technologies in national expertise. He noted that equipment and components for solar and renewable energy are among the enabling industries in Egypt’s updated industrial strategy.

Hashem highlighted TEDA’s role as a successful model of Egypt‑China industrial partnership, attracting investment and positioning itself as a hub for renewable energy industries. He underlined that the Sungrow project will establish a local manufacturing base for energy storage systems, reinforcing Egypt’s capabilities in this promising field.

The factory is expected to be completed and operational next year, marking a new chapter in Egypt’s efforts to localise advanced technologies, expand clean energy manufacturing, and strengthen Egypt‑China industrial cooperation.
