President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Sunday reviewed progress of major education and healthcare projects during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif, Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Abdel Aziz Konsowa, and senior Armed Forces officials.

The meeting reviewed co-ordination mechanisms between the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, as well as the implementation status of joint initiatives and programmes, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.

Sisi followed up several higher education projects being carried out by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, including new private and technological universities, research centres and institutes.

Discussions covered the New Capital University project, the 577-bed Galala University Hospital, and progress of the new National Cancer Institute (500500 Hospital) in Sheikh Zayed, which will have a capacity of 340 beds.

The president stressed the importance of partnering with a global operator to ensure the optimal management of 500500 Hospital and the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.

He also directed that bed capacity at existing university hospitals be expanded and additional facilities opened to improve healthcare services and increase capacity.

In addition, the meeting reviewed education projects under implementation, including Japanese schools across various governorates.

For his part, Minister Abdel Latif said that average student attendance during the 2026/2027 academic year had reached 91.6 per cent, outlining progress in addressing double-shift schooling and expanding digital education programmes, including financial literacy and programming.

Up to103 Egyptian-Japanese schools have been established so far, serving more than 31,000 students, he added.

The minister also reviewed co-operation with Italy to establish 100 technical schools in Egypt, with plans to double that number within two years, as well as co-operation with Germany to equip 50 schools with advanced technology and establish centres of excellence.

Abdel Latif briefed the president on the outcomes of his recent visit to Singapore, including an agreement to launch a joint research project on artificial intelligence applications in education and expand co-operation in teacher training, educational research and future-oriented learning environments.

Sisi stressed the importance of carrying on with boosting international co-operation and exchanging expertise with leading educational institutions worldwide, while expanding global partnerships in both the education and higher education sectors.
