KUALA LUMPUR — Miyu Yamashita defended her LPGA Tour Maybank Championship title with a two-stroke victory in Malaysia on Sunday.
The Japanese star scored a final-round four-under-par 68 to finish on 22-under, beating Yan Liu into second at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
She carded five birdies against one bogey, at the par-four ninth, for a clinical victory, AFP reported.
It was Yamashita’s fifth victory on the LPGA Tour, having led from the second round.
The 25-year-old Japanese, the world No 4, won the Women’s British Open last year for her first major crown.
China’s Yan also carded a final-day 68 but had to settle for second at 20-under.
Pauline Roussin-Bouchard of France was tied third a further stroke back along with Thai amateur Marisa Tojai.
The Asian swing on the LPGA Tour concludes next weekend with the TOTO Japan Classic.
