Egypt’s top prosecutor orders probe into false reports on former PM

Prosecutor General Hamada el Sawy ordered on Wednesday prompt investigations into untrue reports circulated in social media on former prime minister Ibrahim Mahlab.

In a statement, the public prosecution said the office of the prosecutor general received a complaint from Mahlab against a citizen identified as Hamad el Nabrawi for spreading false information in different social media websites over the former premier.

The complainee claimed that Mahlab illegally transferred millions pounds outside Egypt and that he and some bank staffers were arrested at the airport over these charges.

The prosecution examined the page of the complainee on social media and found that he posted these lies on the complainer.

The complainer told prosecutors that the complainee sometimes mention him by his full name and sometimes by his initials.

The complainer accused the man of trying to defame him and spread a state of chaos in the country with the aim of disrupting public order.
