Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Bassam Rady has praised the strong ties between Cairo and Rome, describing bilateral relations as being at an unprecedented level of co-operation and mutual understanding.
Speaking to Italian media on the sidelines of the opening of the Fayoum Portraits exhibition in Rome, Rady said he was proud of the progress made in relations between the two countries.
He said restoring historic ties with Italy had been his main priority since taking up his post in Rome. His mission, he stressed, was to revive these relations and take them to a new level befitting the stature of both countries.
Rady said this goal had been achieved, pointing to the significant progress in bilateral co-operation across a wide range of sectors.
He added that relations had grown stronger than ever, backed by the support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Egypt and Italy now share almost identical stances on many issues, from economic and political affairs to developments in the Mediterranean and the Middle East, he said.
The partnership has also expanded significantly in recent years, particularly in investment, trade and energy, as well as culture, tourism, education, healthcare and technical co-operation.
Rady noted that almost all Egyptian ministers, including the prime minister, had visited Italy in recent years. Similarly, most members of the Italian government, led by Meloni, had visited Egypt.
