Democrats have won control of Congress in a widespread repudiation of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, a drubbing that reached deep into reliable GOP territory. Democrats flipped at least seven Senate seats in ruby-red states and battlegrounds.
Democrat Susie Lee won election on Wednesday to the US House of Representatives representing Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, defeating Republican Marty O’Donnell.
Democrat Tina Kotek won election as governor of Oregon, defeating Republican Christine Drazan. Kotek, the incumbent governor, previously served as Oregon’s House speaker and has frequently sparred with President Donald Trump’s administration. She campaigned on a pledge to tackle homelessness, mental health and education.
Democrat Katie Hobbs won election as governor of Arizona, defeating Republican Andy Biggs, Republican Gertritrude Gonzalez (write-in) and Republican Alice Novoa (write-in). Hobbs won despite being viewed as the most vulnerable Democratic governor in the country.
However, Republican Pete Ricketts won election to the US Senate representing Nebraska, defeating independent candidate Dan Osborn. Ricketts will now serve his first full six-year term, following his 2023 appointment to replace Republican Sen. Ben Sasse and 2024 special election victory.
