Egypt’s Minister of International Co-operation, Rania al-Mashat, met in Cairo on Sunday Head of the Middle East Department at the Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development in Germany, Mario Sander, to discuss co-operation.
The talks, the Ministry of International Co-operation said, came within the framework of Egypt’s development priorities.
Minister el-Mashat and Mr Sander discussed a wide range of issues, including the status of projects implemented in Egypt at present and co-operation with Germany under the Nexus on Water, Food and Energy, widely known as NWFI programme, as well as preparations for the Egyptian-German governmental negotiations for 2022.
Minister al-Mashat said she is keen on meeting multilateral and bilateral development partners to follow up on the portfolio of current projects and resolve obstacles facing their implementation.
“We are also keen on coordinating with the concerned government agencies to ensure the achievement of the desired results from projects implemented with development partners,” the minister said.
She added that her ministry is also keen on maximising benefits from the funds available for projects, especially in the fields of green economy and climate adaptation.
The MWFI programme, the minister said, aims to attract development funds and stimulate private sector investments for green development projects in the water, food and energy sectors.
She added that her ministry uses the programme to promote a list of green projects.
These projects, she said, are at the forefront of Egypt’s efforts to implement the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, and mobilize the efforts of the international community to support its green transformation.
The minister noted that the Egyptian-German governmental negotiations for 2022 would be held after the United Nations Climate Change conference which will be organized in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.
She said the negotiations would focus on the projects that would be financed by the German.
This financing, the minister said, aims to support national priority projects in the fields of renewable and clean energy.
“It will also support private sector competitiveness and strengthen government and administrative reform,” she added.
