Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem reiterated on Thursday Egypt’s commitment to strengthening industrial, trade and investment co-operation with the Russian Federation and accelerating the implementation of joint strategic projects, mainly the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone)
Egypt has allocated approximately 300,000 square metres for the first phase of the project and stands ready to provide all necessary facilitations and procedures to expedite implementation, while maintaining immediate coordination on any outstanding requirements with the Russian side, Hashem said.
The minister made the remarks during an extensive meeting with Russia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Roman Chikushov, and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Oleg Valdemuryshev on the sidelines of the “Russia-Islamic World: Kazan 2026” International Economic Forum.
During the meeting, Minister Hashem highlighted the longstanding historical and strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia, underlining the continued support these relations receive from the leaderships of both countries.
He voiced appreciation for the warm reception and high level of organisation of the “Russia-Islamic World: Kazan 2026” International Economic Forum and the accompanying industrial visits.
The discussions between the two sides focused on opportunities to localise Russian industries in Egypt across several priority sectors, including heavy equipment, industrial and engineering industries, petrochemicals and fertilisers, pharmaceuticals, and the manufacture of energy-related equipment.
They also explored prospects for cooperation with major Russian companies in the manufacturing and assembly of industrial vehicles in Egypt to serve African and Arab markets, in addition to collaboration in feeder industries, maintenance services and technical training.
For his part, Chikushov reaffirmed the interest of Russian companies in expanding their industrial investments in Egypt, praising the country’s modern infrastructure, broad network of trade agreements and strong export capabilities, which position Egypt as a regional hub for Russian industry.
He described the Russian Industrial Zone as a strategic priority for the Russian side, noting that procedures related to the industrial developer are currently being accelerated in preparation for the commencement of implementation during the next phase.
