CAIRO – Egypt’s Electricity and Renewable Minister Energy Mohamed Shaker will take part at the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference, slated for September 25-27 in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
In a press release recently, the Electricity Ministry said the conference aims to promote the transition to clean energy and foster cooperation in energy interconnection.
The ministry added a number of sessions will be held on the sidelines of the conference to probe Global Energy Interconnection, in addition to the development of clean energy and carbon neutrality as well as related IT solutions.
Several research reports and projects will be announced during the event, it said.
A previously-signed memorandum of understanding will be renewed between China’s Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and the Egyptian ministry during the conference, according to the note.
The Egyptian participation is affirming the wide vision of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and activating the government policy that aims to consolidate Egypt’s role as a regional hub for energy.
The year 2023 marks the eighth anniversary of Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) initiative, and the second anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (GDI).
2023 is also the year for mid-term stocktaking of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a milestone year for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and a crucial year for accelerating energy transition.
With a focus on the development of GEI and new energy system, 2023 Global Energy Interconnection Conference aims to pool global wisdom, seek common development, discuss key issues and propose solutions for world energy, climate, environment, sustainable development and biodiversity protection, to further contribute to the advancement of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement.
