CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir said Egypt’s three-line high-speed electric train network is established at a total length of about 2,000 kilometres, of which about 1,400 kilometres are meant to serve Upper Egypt.

The project is carried out in parallel with the ongoing development of the existing railway network at a length of 10,000 kilometres, he added.

Wazir made the remarks as he inspected works at the second line of the train network that links Cairo in the north with Aswan’s Abu Simbel in the south.

The minister directed officials to intensify work around the clock, highlighting the importance of the project which he said will represent a quantum leap in sustainable green transportation in Egypt.

Wazir noted that the high-speed electric train network will cover the whole country and reduce the travel time between governorates by more than 50 per cent.
