CAIRO – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Egypt submitted a draft resolution to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to strengthen its response to food security challenges in net food-importing developing countries and least developed countries (LDCs).

This comes within the framework of the Egyptian government’s tireless efforts to deal with the global economic crisis and its impact on the Egyptian economy, in particular and developing countries, in general, the ministry added in a press release.

It also said that the draft resolution is set to be discussed during the 12th ministerial-level conference of the WTO that will be convened at its headquarters in Geneva on June 12-15.

According to Dr. Ahmed Ihab Gamaleddin, Egypt’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, the Egyptian delegation submitted the draft resolution to the WTO on behalf of the Arab and African groups and the LDCs after intensive consultations with member states to win their support for it.
