Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly witnessed on Sunday, the signing of an agreement with the World Bank (WB) for the second phase of its Development Policy Financing (DPF) programme to support Egypt’s economic reform agenda.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty signed the agreement with WB Regional Director Alwaleed Alatabani.
The signing ceremony was attended by Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom and Deputy Finance Minister Yasser Sobhi.
In remarks during the ceremony, Abdelatty said the agreement reflected Egypt’s efforts to strengthen co-operation with international and regional financing institutions and mobilise concessional development funding.
The financing aims to boost the resilience and competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, particularly amid mounting economic challenges, geopolitical tensions and their impact on the global economy, he added.
Abdelatty said the agreement also reflected progress in implementing economic and institutional reforms, particularly those aimed at expanding private-sector participation, removing barriers to investment and improving public financial management.
These reforms are intended to enhance the economy’s ability to withstand external shocks, sustain growth and accelerate the transition towards a green economy, he noted.
In May 2026, the World Bank Group’s Board of Executive Directors approved a total of $1 billion in financing under the programme.
The approval reflected international institutions’ confidence in Egypt’s ability to continue implementing structural reforms and achieve its development objectives.
The financing represents the second of three concessional development policy loans extended by the WB to Egypt in support of its economic reform programme and national development priorities.
The programme focuses on four main areas: promoting private-sector-led job creation, improving public financial management and fiscal sustainability, protecting the most vulnerable groups, and supporting the transition towards a green economy.
