Minister of State for Media Diaa Rashwan emphasised the need for closer integration between official spokespersons, media advisers and national outlets to ensure the rapid flow of accurate information on state affairs. He said this would provide clear official narratives, close gaps caused by delays, and block the spread of rumours and false reports.

At a meeting attended by 35 spokespersons and advisers, Rashwan explained that improving their performance is part of presidential directives to enhance Egyptian media’s role in raising awareness and positively shaping public opinion. Participants highlighted challenges including the spread of false information on social media, reliance on unverified sources, and the lack of clear mandates or sufficient access to data. They called for advanced training programmes and clearer definitions of their roles.

Rashwan confirmed that training programmes are being prepared and that the ministry will co-ordinate between government bodies and media outlets to establish clear foundations for cooperation. He stressed the need for a unified framework to prevent contradictions in the state’s media discourse and pointed to wider efforts to regulate social media use. He concluded by noting that work is under way to accelerate the issuance of the Freedom of Information Law, which will guarantee citizens and media access to information in a binding and regulated manner.
