The Capital International Airport has officially marked a transformative milestone in Egypt’s aviation sector with the launch of its first regular international flights.

Operated by Air Cairo, the low-cost carrier of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the inaugural flight departed for King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Utilising an Airbus A320 with 160 passengers on board, this launch initiates a schedule of six weekly flights, signaling the airport’s transition into a high-capacity hub designed to diversify flight destinations and optimise the operational efficiency of the Egyptian airport network, particularly during peak travel seasons.

This strategic expansion is a cornerstone of the state’s broader vision to modernise infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.

By leveraging its prime location at kilometre 61 of the Cairo-Suez Road, the airport serves as a vital gateway for the New Administrative Capital and its surrounding governorates.

The integration of Air Cairo’s international routes at this facility is expected to bolster the civil aviation sector’s financial returns while significantly alleviating the persistent operational pressure on Cairo International Airport.

This collaborative model between modern airport infrastructure and national airline expansion aims to provide seamless travel experiences and drive both inbound and outbound tourism.

The Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh el-Hefny emphasised that this development aligns with a national strategy focused on maximising the utility of Egypt’s newest aviation assets.

He noted that the operational readiness and high-quality services at Capital International Airport reflect a commitment to sustainable growth within the air transport system.

To commemorate the first international flight, the airport’s Public Relations Department organised a warm reception for passengers, highlighting the facility’s organisational excellence and its adherence to the highest international standards of safety and hospitality.

Since its initial inauguration in 2019, the Capital International Airport has been engineered to meet global specifications.

The facility features a sophisticated passenger terminal capable of handling 300 travellers per hour, supported by a 3,650-metre runway and an apron designed to accommodate eight wide-body aircraft.  Beyond its logistical capabilities, the airport is equipped with security systems including advanced X-ray screening and comprehensive surveillance alongside modern amenities such as VIP halls, Duty-Free outlets, and integrated transport links to four major regional roads.

These features solidify its role as a world-class terminal driving the future of Egyptian aviation.
