Flydubai has announced it will resume direct flights to the Syrian capital, Damascus, from 1 June 2025, marking the first commercial air link between the UAE and Syria by an Emirati carrier in over a decade.
The low-cost airline will operate daily services to Damascus International Airport (DAM) from Terminal 2 at Dubai International Airport (DXB), just in time for the Eid al-Adha holidays and the busy summer travel season.
“We are pleased to be the first UAE airline to resume flights to Syria after a 12-year hiatus,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer of Flydubai. He noted that Damascus was among the airline’s earliest destinations, with operations originally launching in June 2009.
Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce, said the reinstated service would offer travellers from the UAE and across Flydubai’s growing network a convenient travel option to Syria.
“We’ve worked closely with the relevant authorities to ensure all operational requirements are met ahead of relaunching this route, and we look forward to welcoming passengers on board,” he added.
The decision to resume flights comes after the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) officially approved the reinstatement of air travel between the two countries in April this year.
