Egyptian Minister of Education and Technical Education, Mohamed Abdul Latif, met on Wednesday a high-ranking delegation from the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), led by the agency’s president, Akihiko Tanaka. The meeting came during the minister’s official visit to Japan

Discussions during the meeting focused on expanding technical support for collaborative educational initiatives, highlighting the strong and enduring partnership between Cairo and Tokyo.

Minister Abdul Latif expressed his sincere gratitude to JICA for its ongoing co-operation and support in advancing educational projects. A major focus of the talks was the expansion of the highly successful Egyptian-Japanese schools project. The minister shared his vision of integrating Japanese educational principles — renowned for cultivating discipline, teamwork, and critical thinking — into schools across Egypt.

The meeting also addressed opportunities to further enhance co-operation in specialized areas, particularly in the education of children with special needs. The minister expressed his desire to leverage Japan’s expertise in this field to promote inclusive education not only in Egypt but throughout Africa.

Additionally, Minister Abdul Latif emphasized Egypt’s goal to strengthen technical education through its applied technology school model in collaboration with Japanese companies. These schools provide students with advanced vocational training while also offering Japanese language instruction to prepare graduates for employment opportunities within Japanese corporations.

“The partnerships we are developing today will empower our educators, create enriching learning environments, and unlock a world of opportunities for our students,” the minister remarked. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working closely with JICA to achieve shared educational objectives.

JICA President Akihiko Tanaka echoed these sentiments, praising the strong collaboration between the two countries. He highlighted the successes of the Egyptian-Japanese schools, describing them as the realisation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s vision for a pioneering educational system. Tanaka noted the model’s unique standing in Egypt and Africa, expressing hopes for its continued growth both regionally and internationally.

As part of his visit, Minister Abdul Latif toured several specialized educational institutions in Japan, including a support centre and a school for children with special needs, as well as a high school. He was particularly impressed by the integration of psychological care within educational programs for students with special needs, noting its positive impact on both academic achievement and social integration.
