Massive procession of 10,000 farmers marched through the capital yesterday to express their gratitude to President Anwar el-Sadat following new government measures.
The demonstration, representing three million smallholders from across Egypt’s governorates, served as a renewal of the farmers’ pledge of loyalty to the President. The crowd celebrated recent revolutionary decrees that have exempted three million small-scale landowners from all taxes.
The procession commenced at the Agriculture Department of Giza before heading towards Kubbeh Palace, passing through major landmarks including Tahrir Square and Ramses Square. The marchers carried banners and voiced their appreciation for the government’s support of the agricultural sector.
