Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi lauded the depth of distinguished relations between Egypt and Serbia, particularly at the level of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), expressing Egypt’s interest in promoting bilateral ties in all domains, along with continuing political coordination and consultations between the two countries.
This came during a session of talks with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in Belgrade on Wednesday.
In statements, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said that at the onset of the meeting, the Serbian president welcomed President Sisi as a dear guest in Serbia for the first time, expressing his country’s appreciation for the Egyptian leadership and people.
He also lauded the close relationship between Egypt and Serbia, stressing his country’s keenness to strengthen bilateral co-operation and coordination at all levels, particularly in light of Egypt’s pivotal role as a pillar of stability, security and peace in the Middle East and Africa, the spokesman added.
For his part, Sisi thanked Vučić for his invitation to visit Serbia and the warm reception and generous hospitality accorded to him. He also congratulated him on his re-election as president of Serbia for a second term, saying this reflects the Serbian citizens’ confidence in his leadership at this historical stage that is full of many political and economic challenges.
The talks also dealt with means to enhance bilateral co-operation at various levels, the spokesman said, adding that the Serbian president also praised the remarkable development that took place in Egypt in recent years.
He also asserted his country’s aspiration to enhance joint investments in many sectors, beef up the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and create a qualitative leap in the Egyptian-Serbian economic ties, particularly through the Serbian companies’ participation in implementing giant national projects in Egypt.
President Sisi also praised the level of Egyptian-Serbian co-operation in different fields, particularly in the military, economic, trade and tourism ones, in line with the broad consensus of visions between the two countries on the course of regional and international conditions, taking into consideration the state of instability in the international arena.
He further urged countries with similar orientations to swing into a joint action, especially with regard to energy and regional security.
The talks also touched on the latest developments related to regional and international issues of mutual interest, topped by the Ukrainian-Russian crisis and its repercussions on the global economy, the spokesman noted.
They also discussed the situation in Yemen, Syria and Libya, the spokesman said, adding that the Serbian president praised in this regard the positive role played by Egypt to reach a political settlement to all existing crises and to build bridges of dialogue among African, Arab and European countries.
The Serbian president also lauded efforts to combat extremist ideology and illegal migration and establish principles and values of acceptance of others, freedom of choice and tolerance, the spokesman concluded.
