Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co‑operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Romanian Foreign Minister Dan Nicolăescu to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand co‑operation across a range of sectors.
Abdelatty congratulated his Romanian counterpart on assuming office and highlighted the strong historical ties between the two countries, noting that Egypt and Romania are marking 120 years of diplomatic relations this year. He stressed the importance of building on this legacy to further advance bilateral co‑operation.
The minister underscored the need to expand economic, trade and investment ties, building on the outcomes of the fourth session of the Egyptian‑Romanian Joint Committee. He pointed to opportunities for deeper co‑operation in agriculture, energy and natural gas, as well as within the framework of the Egypt‑EU Comprehensive Partnership.
The call also addressed prospects for enhancing maritime transport and logistics connectivity, particularly between the ports of Alexandria and Constanța, with a view to facilitating trade flows, attracting investment and exchanging expertise in port management and operations.
Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s strategic location, the advantages offered by the Suez Canal, and Egypt’s free trade agreements with African countries, while noting Romania’s position as a key gateway to European markets. The two ministers agreed on the importance of leveraging these advantages to boost trade and economic co‑operation between the two countries.
