Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli met Saturday with Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla to follow up on renewable energy projects.

The meeting reviewed the situation regarding rationalizing consumption of natural gas used in power plant operations, as well as developments in the implementation of the state’s plan to rationalize electricity consumption and export surplus gas quantities, thereby providing more foreign currency, Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad said in a statement.

It also discussed renewable energy projects, particularly those based on wind and solar energy, which are being implemented in collaboration and partnership with many international companies, as well as efforts to expand the manufacture of various components for the operation of these projects as part of Egypt’s integrated and sustainable energy strategy that aims to achieve 42% of regenerative energy by 2020, he added.

The meeting also covered agreements and memorandums of understanding signed with several international companies and alliances to implement several green hydrogen production projects in Egypt, as part of Cairo’s efforts to strengthen its competitive capabilities and achieve its ambitious goal of capturing 8% of the global hydrogen market.
