Indian Ambassador in Cairo Ajit Gupte has hailed Egypt’s key role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip as well as Cairo’s efforts towards preventing the escalation and reaching a ceasefire.
The ambassador was addressing a press briefing held Thursday to address the Palestinians issue and the unfolding events in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt has exerted great efforts to support stability in the Middle East, the ambassador said, highlighting India’s efforts to support Palestinians in the enclave.
India has dispatched 70 tons of humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including 16.5 tons of medicines, tents and hygiene supplies delivered to Egyptian Red Crescent at Arish Airport through two batches.
The current conflict between Israel and Hamas is causing an aggravated humanitarian suffering for civilians, elderly peoples, women and children, Gupte said, adding that India welcomes all international community efforts meant to stop the ongoing escalation in Palestine.
India underscored the pressing need to ensure the unimpeded and effective delivery of humanitarian aid and relief supplies to Gaza residents, the ambassador said.
