CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty underscored the unity of Palestinian territory, stressing Egypt’s rejection of any measures that would solidify the separation between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip or undermine prospects for a two-state solution on the ground.

The top diplomat made the remarks during his meeting on Friday with Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the sidelines of his participation in the 10th Regional Forum of Union for the Mediterranean Foreign Ministers in Barcelona, where they discussed Egypt-EU relations and regional developments.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said Abdelatty welcomed the outcome of the first Egypt-EU summit held in Brussels, which reflected a shared commitment to strengthening the strategic and comprehensive partnership between the two sides.

Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the financial support package provided by the European Union, and voiced Egypt’s hope to attract more European investments, facilitate access for Egyptian exports to EU markets, and enhance private-sector partnerships.

According to the spokesperson, the meeting also addressed regional developments, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip. The minister briefed the EU official on Egypt’s efforts to uphold the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement, stressing the importance of deploying an international stabilization force in Gaza within a peacekeeping framework.

The minister reiterated Egypt’s firm and consistent position in support of the security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan, outlining Egypt’s efforts to help resolve the crisis through the Quartet mechanism to secure a ceasefire and create conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity and stability.

He also called for intensified regional and international efforts to create safe corridors for humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people and to support national institutions.

The talks touched on developments related to the Iranian nuclear file, with Abdelatty emphasizing the need to explore ways to de-escalate tensions in the region and support diplomatic solutions.

He emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as building mutual trust among the concerned parties, to pave the way for a comprehensive settlement of the nuclear issue.
