CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full and unwavering support for the legitimate, inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

His remarks were made during a meeting Wednesday with Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Mustafa.

The top Egyptian diplomat stressed the importance of working toward a permanent and just political settlement to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, which envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This solution, he emphasized, would prevent the recurrence of violence once and for all.

Foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said that Abdeltty reiterated Egypt’s full backing for the Palestinian government and its reform plans and stressed the importance of empowering the Palestinian Authority politically and economically and enabling it to take full responsibility for the Gaza Strip which is part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The minister also highlighted Egypt’s efforts to ensure the sustainability and full implementation of all phases of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the meeting underlined the importance of advancing early recovery projects, debris removal, and accelerating the delivery of humanitarian aid, while ensuring that Palestinians remain in Gaza, given their firm attachment to their homeland and refusal to abandon it.

The Palestinian premier and foreign minister presented a comprehensive plan for early recovery and debris removal, in collaboration with international organizations, which is intended to pave the way for the reconstruction phase and the restoration of normalcy to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
