CAIRO – Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad met Monday with Finnish Ambassador to Egypt Pekka Kosonen, where both sides discussed bilateral co-operation in the environment domain.
The state attached special importance to developing the solid waste management system over the past years, affirmed Fouad in a statement.
The main legislation related to solid waste management in Egypt was one of the most important steps taken in this respect, the minister went on to say.
The minister, meanwhile, said that supporting entrepreneurs in the area of waste management is one of the most important mechanisms for the private sector’s participation.
Egypt attaches great importance to promoting ecotourism, she affirmed, pointing out to her ministry’s co-operation with the Tourism Ministry to launch Green Fins initiative, which aims to protect the country’s coral reefs.
The Finnish ambassador, for his part, lauded Egypt’s remarkable attention to the environment and climate change issues, as it will host the upcoming COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh.
Egypt and Finland maintain co-operation in the field of environmental work, he said, pointing out to efforts exerted by the two countries to integrate the private sector into finding solutions to address climate change.
