Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad took part in a dialogue on coexistence and peacebuilding under an Egyptian-Filipino programme for religious leaders. She highlighted Egypt’s experience in promoting equality and social inclusion.
Awad said Egypt has long been a model of coexistence among different faiths and social groups. She stressed the importance of freedom of worship and belief, as well as equal opportunities based on competence.
She also highlighted progress in empowering women and people with disabilities, noting that women are increasingly taking on leadership positions.
The minister outlined Egypt’s “Decent Life” initiative, which combines infrastructure development with human development, job creation and support for women and young people in rural areas.
Awad said the government was also working to ensure equal rights through legal reforms governing the construction and restoration of churches.
