CAIRO- Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that, within the framework of consultations that Egypt is conducting with influential international parties to coordinate efforts to halt the ongoing escalation between the Palestinians and Israelis, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry made a phone call Saturday with his French counterpart Catherine Colonna.
Abu Zeid added that the call tackled the importance of taking action at the international level to stop the escalation and defuse the current Palestinian-Israeli crisis, especially in light of the membership of Egypt and France in the Munich Group mechanism concerned with promoting Middle East peace efforts.
Shoukry emphasized to the French minister the gravity of the current crisis and its humanitarian and security implications, especially if it is left to spiral out of control, underlining that it is highly imperative for all parties to exercise the utmost levels of self-restraint and resort to a calm approach, the spokesman said.
He added that the two top diplomats agreed to continue joint consultation and coordination at all levels during the coming days and to work to have the crisis resolved forthwith.
