Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to working with international partners to ease regional tensions and prevent further crises.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Friday, acting on instructions from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The meeting followed ministerial talks in Istanbul aimed at containing regional tensions and promoting diplomatic solutions.

The talks were attended by the foreign ministers of the R4 quadrilateral mechanism, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, as well as the foreign ministers of Germany, France and Italy.

The meeting reviewed discussions among R4 ministers and wider consultations with the E4 European group, comprising Britain, Germany, France and Italy.

Participants stressed the importance of continued diplomatic efforts and closer regional and international co-ordination to contain current crises and maintain regional stability.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts with international partners to prevent further escalation and protect regional security.

He also stressed the need to safeguard navigation in the Black Sea, noting that Egypt is one of the world’s largest grain importers.

The minister reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any threats to international shipping, warning that disruptions to maritime routes could have serious consequences for the global economy.
