Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co‑operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El‑Din Salem witnessed on Monday the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Sudan to implement development projects in the water sector in Sudan.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the third round of the Egypt‑Sudan 2+2 mechanism involving the foreign and water ministers of both countries. The MoU was signed by Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailem and Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Ismat Qurashi.
The agreement comes within the framework of co‑operation between Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation through the Egyptian initiative for the development of Nile Basin countries, supervised by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development.
The memorandum aims to support reconstruction and development efforts in Sudan and strengthen bilateral co‑operation in water resources management. Planned projects include the rehabilitation of water facilities damaged by the conflict, flood protection and rainwater harvesting projects, the establishment of solar-powered drinking water stations, and programmes for training and capacity building.
The initiatives are intended to help meet the needs of the Sudanese people while supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts across the country.
