Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the Ministry is committed to adopting cutting-edge medical technologies, particularly robotic surgery, noting that its high precision can improve surgical outcomes, reduce the risk of errors and enhance patient safety.

He stressed that investing in the training and qualification of healthcare professionals is essential to ensuring the technology is used in line with the highest scientific and professional standards.

The minister made these remarks as he met on Wednesday representatives of Technowave and Medbot to discuss introducing robotic surgery technology in Egypt and review plans to establish a specialized training center for medical teams.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the meeting discussed selecting the Princess Fatima Academy for  Professional Medical Education as the proposed site for the training centre. The facility would provide specialised theoretical, practical and simulation-based programmes to prepare medical teams to use robotic surgery in accordance with international best practices.

The discussions also covered launching specialised training for physicians, initially focusing on urology, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery.

The minister directed officials to complete a comprehensive technical, legal, administrative and financial feasibility study to begin implementation and ordered a site visit to the proposed location.

The meeting also reviewed plans to operate Egypt’s first surgical robot at Nasser Institute Hospital before expanding robotic surgery services to major hospitals nationwide.
