Egypt has taken a new step advancing specialized sports education with the launch of the Middle East’s first master’s degree in sports management under the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Ministry of Higher Education announced on Tuesday.
The cooperation agreement was signed between the British University in Egypt (BUE) and FISU in the presence of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa.
Under the agreement, BUE becomes the first university in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa to join the FISU Master Programme in Sports Management as an academic partner.
The internationally recognized programme aims to prepare future leaders in sports management, governance, event organization, and sports institutions in line with global best practices.
The meeting also included discussions on Egypt’s bid to host the 2031 Summer World University Games, which would mark the first time the event is held in Africa.
Minister Konsowa said the partnership goes beyond launching a new academic programme and lays the foundation for long-term cooperation in sports education, training, and capacity building.
He added that the initiative supports Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the link between education and labour market needs while advancing the internationalization of higher education.
The minister noted that the programme would help develop qualified sports professionals and reinforce Egypt’s position as a regional center for specialized sports education and training in Africa and the Middle East.
BUE President Mohamed Lotfy described the agreement as a milestone in the university’s international expansion strategy.
He said the partnership would create new opportunities for students to benefit from global expertise, training programmes, and international exchanges.
FISU President Leonz Eder welcomed the partnership and praised cooperation with Egypt in supporting university sports.
He said the programme would equip graduates with the skills needed to meet the evolving demands of the global sports industry.
