US President Donald Trump met his national security team Thursday to discuss whether to resume military operations against Iran, Fox News reported, citing senior officials.
The officials said meetings had taken place at the White House on Wednesday and Thursday. They said November 9 would bring a new moon in the Middle East, providing little to no moonlight and favorable conditions for military operations.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office earlier Thursday that Washington would “make a decision” on whether to resume the war.
“Do we want to go further” with strikes to ensure Iran’s nuclear programme is dead and that “it will never happen again?” he asked.
“I would rather not destroy the rest of the country if possible, but maybe I will have to. You’ll know soon enough.”
US Central Command was finalising preparations for a possible resumption of major operations in Iran but had not received a new directive from Washington, reports said, citing a US official.
