Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem held talks on Wednesday with Ireland’s Ambassador to Egypt, Aidan O’Hara, to discuss avenues for enhancing industrial co-operation between the two countries during the coming phase.

Discussions during the meeting reviewed industrial sectors offering promising opportunities for joint co-operation, foremost among them pharmaceuticals, electronics, software and telecommunications, given the extensive expertise of Irish companies in these fields.

Minister Hashem affirmed that relations between Egypt and Ireland are rooted in a long history of co-operation across various sectors, stressing Egypt’s commitment to further advancing bilateral ties. He underscored Egypt’s keenness to benefit from Irish expertise in deepening local manufacturing and transferring technology and industrial knowledge to Egyptian industry.

Hashem noted that the ministry’s updated strategy for advancing Egyptian industry has identified a number of priority sectors targeted for development and investment attraction in the coming period, including pharmaceuticals, food industries, textiles and electronics. He pointed out that Irish companies possess extensive accumulated expertise in these sectors that could contribute to technology transfer, industrial localisation and capacity building in Egypt.

He reaffirmed the Ministry of Industry’s commitment to providing all forms of support necessary to address any challenges facing Irish companies operating in Egypt.

For his part, Ambassador Aidan O’Hara affirmed Ireland’s commitment to strengthening co-operation with Egypt as one of its key partners in the region. He noted that Irish companies operating in pharmaceuticals, life sciences and artificial intelligence are interested in injecting new investments into the Egyptian market, benefiting from Egypt’s advanced infrastructure, investment-friendly legislative framework and the country’s promising investment opportunities.
