Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati met on Wednesday Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker in Vienna, where he conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and delivered a written message from the President.

The message is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing political consultation between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It added that Minister Abdel-Aati praised the continued development of Egyptian-Austrian relations and the growing communication at various levels, stressing the importance of holding the first round of political consultations between the two foreign ministers and maintaining high-level coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest to further advance bilateral co-operation.

The foreign minister further reviewed opportunities to expand economic and trade cooperation, highlighting Egypt’s attractive investment climate and encouraging greater Austrian investment, particularly in renewable energy and automotive component manufacturing.

He also discussed migration, calling for a balanced and comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of irregular migration while establishing an organised framework for labour mobility that serves the interests of both countries.

Minister Abdel-Aati congratulated Austria on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2029 term, expressing Egypt’s commitment to close coordination on key international issues, particularly amid the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East.

He also outlined Egypt’s efforts to contain regional tensions and emphasised the need to refocus international attention on the Palestinian issue, ensure the full implementation of the first phase of the US President’s peace plan, advance to the second phase, and halt Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement and attempts to expand military control in the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Austrian federal chancellor asked that his greetings be conveyed to President Sisi and commended Egypt’s balanced approach to regional crises.

He praised Egypt’s efforts to reduce tensions, particularly regarding the Iranian crisis, and its role in promoting regional security and stability.

The chancellor also reaffirmed Austria’s commitment to maintaining close consultation with Egypt and expanding bilateral cooperation.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on developments in Lebanon, Sudan and Libya, with both sides stressing the importance of supporting security and stability while preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of those countries.
