The Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics (LCBG) at Tanta Faculty of Medicine’s has been accredited internationally, President of Tanta University Mahmoud Zaki announced.

The results of the laboratory are now internationally authenticated, which in turn, has contributed to the improvement of medical services with accurate results on time, Zaki said, adding that this will raise the university’s international ranking.

In statements to this newspaper, Zaki said the centre is expected to attain a leading global position by conducting research in cancer genetics.

The centre is contributing to the treatment of cancerous and genetic diseases within the framework of adherence to professional ethics of scientific research, Zaki said.

LCBG applies world quality standards for improving the health of citizens nationwide, Zaki added.

The laboratory has deep genome sequencing facilities to analyse the human genome using the latest technology.

The human genome is a complete set of nucleic acid sequences for humans, encoded as DNA within the 23 chromosome pairs in cell nuclei and in a small DNA molecule found within individual mitochondria.

The laboratory is also equipped with the latest educational methods for training courses for students, faculty staff as well as staff in university hospitals across the country.

A dozen laboratories nationwide have been internationally accredited after their upgrade, which cost around LE9.6 million, Zaki said.

They are funded by Project Management Unit (PMU) for Higher Education Development.
