Kouchouk stresses commitment to enhancing efficiency of water resources
Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss joint coordination between the two ministries across several files, in a manner that supports the water system and enables it to achieve its targets efficiently.
During the meeting, Kouchouk affirmed the continuation of close coordination on all shared issues between the two ministries, noting its positive impact on the public interest.
He also stressed commitment to supporting efforts to rationalise and enhance the efficiency of water resource use through the application of modern technologies.
For his part, Minister Sewilam emphasised keenness on the ongoing co-operation with the Ministry of Finance, which contributes to implementing various water projects according to their scheduled timelines.
The meeting also reviewed the status of a proposed protocol between the ministries of water resources and irrigation, agriculture, finance, and national banks to finance projects aimed at transitioning to modern irrigation systems.
Sewilam highlighted the necessity of using modern irrigation systems in all sandy lands in accordance with the law of the Water Resources and Irrigation Law, alongside the development of irrigation canals and the adoption of modern agricultural practices at the field level.
This will benefit farmers by increasing productivity, improving crop quality, rationalising water use, enhancing water management, and ensuring the availability of water for agricultural lands in appropriate quantities and at the right times, he said.
