Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny met yesterday with Director of the Air Transport Bureau at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Mohamed Khalifa Rahma, ahead of the Egypt International Aviation and Space Exhibition in New Alamein City.

During the meeting, they discussed strengthening cooperation between Egypt and ICAO, particularly in areas contributing to the development of civil aviation on regional and global levels.

Dr. El-Hefny emphasized Egypt’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector, aligning with the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

They also explored collaboration with ICAO and the European Union to launch a feasibility study for sustainable aviation fuel production in Egypt, aiming to support ICAO’s target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

El-Hefny highlighted the importance of leveraging ICAO’s expertise in enhancing Egypt’s civil aviation sector, particularly in aviation security, cybersecurity, and utilizing data and statistics to create a comprehensive growth plan.

The meeting also recognized the contributions of Egyptian figures who have represented the country in international aviation organizations, praising Rahma as the first Egyptian and Arab to hold his prestigious position within ICAO’s Middle East region.

The Air Transport Bureau of ICAO is responsible for key strategic areas, including aviation security, environmental issues, and the economic development of air transport, reflecting Egypt’s global leadership in the civil aviation industry.
