Our esteemed readers, welcome to the News Digest.

Yesterday was a busy news day topped with Sisi’s call for localizing auto industries and HoD’s approval on dismissing MB civil servants.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for motivating the localisation of vehicle manufacturing and feeding industries in such a way that increases the share of local components in auto-making and keeps abreast with global advances.

Also yesterday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri gave President of the European Council Charles Michel a detailed account of Egypt’s position on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue.

Thailand health minister announced yesterday that it will give those who received a first dose of China’s Sinovac shot a second dose of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine after hundreds of fully vaccinated medical workers caught the disease, as concerns over its efficacy continue to grow.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Egypt remains an important NATO partner with a pivotal role in the region. Stoltenberg statement came during his meeting with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri at the NATO headquarters.

The House of Deputies (HoD) approved yesterday on extending the state of emergency for three months starting 1:00 am of 24 July, 2021. It also approved dismissing employees that are proven to have links with Muslim Brotherhood group or any other designated terrorist groups as per amendments to the 1973 law on the measures regulating the dismissal of state employees.

EU foreign policy Chief Josep Borrell urged yesterday member states to consider imposing sanctions over the crisis in Ethiopia’s Tigray, as the bloc looks to increase aid deliveries to the region.
