Ambassador Salih Mutlu Şen, Chargé d’Affaires of Türkiye’s Embassy in Cairo, has expressed optimism about the prospects of relations between his country and Egypt in the coming period.

He described relations between Egypt and Türkiye as ‘historic’.

“The relations between the two peoples have been strong throughout the ages,” the ambassador said.

“They have not been interrupted in the past period,” he added at an Iftar (fast-breaking meal) party organised by his embassy for members of the media community on Friday.

He noted that the visit paid to Cairo by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu last month marked a beginning for the restoration of relations.

The next stage, the ambassador said, would witness more exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

He added that a new age is dawning for relations between Cairo and Ankara and this age finds its roots in the past.

The Iftar party was held at the ambassador’s residence in Giza, previously the palace of Princess Kazima, daughter of Sultan Hussein Kamel who ruled Egypt between 1914 and 1917.

The ambassador described the palace as representing the spirit of Turkish culture.
