Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has underscored the strategic importance of the energy sector as a cornerstone of Egypt’s comprehensive development, stressing that the progress achieved over the past years reflects a national journey in which challenges have been transformed into stability and preparedness for the future, under the direct and continuous guidance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
The prime minister made these remarks during a meeting held to review the key themes and proposed framework for the session entitled “Egypt’s Energy Journey: National Achievements and Future Prospects”, as part of preparations for the Egypt Forum 2026, an initiative commissioned by President Sisi.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, and a number of other officials were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly stressed that the forthcoming session would provide an important opportunity to document the achievements of Egypt’s energy sector since 2014, examine the challenges encountered and the measures adopted to address them, and outline the state’s future plans for advancing the green transition and expanding renewable energy.
These efforts, he noted, are central to strengthening Egypt’s standing as a regional energy hub.
The meeting reviewed the far-reaching transformation witnessed by the electricity and petroleum sectors in recent years, highlighting the shift from addressing longstanding structural challenges and meeting urgent domestic needs towards establishing a more stable, sustainable and secure energy system.
In this context, the discussions examined documented data and evidence illustrating the scale of major national projects undertaken to modernise energy infrastructure, improve the efficiency of electricity generation, transmission and distribution networks, and expand exploration, production and refining activities.
The review also covered progress in settling outstanding dues owed to foreign partners, as well as government measures to support the sector, reinforce its operational capacity and create a more attractive environment for new investment.
The meeting further addressed the sector’s future strategic direction and the action plans to be presented during the forum session.
Particular emphasis was placed on accelerating the development of renewable energy projects, strengthening regional electricity interconnection, and building on Egypt’s existing capabilities to enhance energy security and support sustainable economic growth.
The session is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing the progress made in developing Egypt’s energy infrastructure, communicating the government’s future vision and reinforcing the country’s ambition to consolidate its position as a leading regional centre for energy production, trade and interconnection.
