The Cabinet’s Media Centre has highlighted new World Bank (WB) projections pointing to stronger prospects for the Egyptian economy, alongside the country’s progress in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and investing in digital infrastructure and human capital.
According to the infographics released by the centre, the WB raised its forecast for Egypt’s economic growth to 5.1% in FY2025/2026, up from its previous projection of 4.3%. The bank also projected GDP per capita growth of 3.9% in the same fiscal year.
The WB expects Egypt’s growth rate to rise from 4.4% in FY2024/2025 to 5.1% in FY2025/2026, supported by easing inflation, stronger private consumption and investment, and a recovery in extractive industries.
The report also noted that Egypt has taken measures to stabilise markets and protect households, including support for essential commodities, tighter oversight to curb price manipulation, and the expansion of cash transfer programmes.
On artificial intelligence, the WB highlighted Egypt’s investments in AI infrastructure and efforts to develop specialised talent, aiming to prepare young people for future jobs and promote the responsible use of emerging technologies.
The bank also pointed to Egypt’s strategic position as a major corridor for submarine cables linking Europe and Asia, helping attract investment in hyperscale data centres. Among the announced projects is a new data centre project worth $400 million in 2026.
In addition, the WB noted that Egypt ranks third in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan (MENAAP) region in terms of the number of AI companies, with 289 firms, while also recording particularly high levels of AI adoption.
These developments reflect Egypt’s focus on economic growth, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and technology-driven investment.
