Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Abbas Helmy and the South Sudanese Minister of Transport witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian and South Sudanese civil aviation authorities, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The memorandum of understanding aims to enhance co-operation and integration in various air transport activities and to study the establishment of economic partnerships with the brothers in South Sudan.

Minister Helmy confirmed that he had met the South Sudanese Minister of Transport, stressing the depth of the distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, pointing to the keenness of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to enhance co-operation with Arab and African brothers, which comes in light of the Egyptian state’s orientation towards strengthening relations and the Egyptian presence within the African continent.

This, he said, contributes to establishing economic partnerships in the field of air transport, providing all means of support and facilities, and transferring Egyptian expertise to the Sudanese brothers in various fields of aviation, foremost among which is maintenance, air freight and training.

The Sudanese minister expressed his happiness at signing a memorandum of understanding with Egypt in the field of civil aviation, which comes in light of maximising the benefit of the Egyptian capabilities and expertise.

The South Sudanese minister praised the development boom witnessed by the Egyptian civil aviation sector in various civil aviation activities, which he touched during his tour of EgyptAir for Maintenance and Engineering and the EgyptAir Training Academy, expressing his appreciation for the great support provided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to the State of South Sudan in the field of transportation.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Helmy presented the shield of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to the South Sudanese minister in appreciation of the distinguished relations between the two countries in the field of aviation.

The memorandum of understanding was signed on the Egyptian side by Dr. Engineer Ashraf Nur, head of the Civil Aviation Authority, and on the State of South Sudan, David Sobek, head of the Civil Aviation Authority.
